Divorce! Who Gets What? / Развод! Кто что получает?
Read Развод! Кто что получает? Bill and Susan Gordon were married in West Virginia in 1996. For ten years they were very happy; they had a boy in 1999, and a little girl in 2003. In 2006 the Gordons moved to Connecticut, and they started to have problems with each other. Now they want to get a divorce.
You are members of a family court in Bridgeport, Connecticut. Study each story carefully, then decide who gets what.

Bill Gordon, 42, civil engineer ($40,000 a year)
Bill’s Statement to the Court: "Susan is a good mother and a good person; in fact, I don’t want a divorce, but I can’t stop her. At home, both Susan and I take care of the children, and I do 50% of the cooking. I know our lives are not very exciting; we only go to a restaurant or movie once a week. But I love my children more than anything else in the world. After the divorce, I want: the children 75% of the time, 50% of the furniture and property, one car, and the house (because she is leaving me). I don't want to pay her any alimony."

Susan Gordon, 40, accountant ($35,000 a year)
Susan’s Statement to the Court: "Bill is a great father; in fact, he always spends more time with the children than he spends with me. But after the kids are in bed, he always goes out to drink and play cards with the guys. Our life is very boring; we never do anything exciting. I still like him, but I just can’t live with him anymore. I love my children very much, but I also want to be happy myself. After the divorce, I want: the children 75% of the time, 50% of the furniture and property, one car, and the house (because he is the reason for the divorce). I want $15,000 a year in alimony."
